Spicy Margarita Day is a relatively new celebration, inspired by the mission behind Tanteo Tequila. Owned and operated by a cooperative of agave farmers, Tanteo is known for its zero-waste distilling process and community-focused initiatives - proving that great cocktails can also do good.

📅 January 26 marks the birthday of Tanteo’s late founder, Jonathan Rojewski, a pioneer of spicy cocktails who believed flavour and purpose should go hand in hand. While Tanteo Tequila is not currently available in Canada, the spirit of the day lives on through homemade spicy tequila and bold, flavour-forward Margaritas.

🔥🌶️ Jalapeño-Infused Tequila Recipe

🧾 Ingredients

🌶️ 1 fresh jalapeño
🥃 2 cups blanco tequila or mezcal

🫙 Instructions

1️⃣ Thinly slice the jalapeño (remove seeds for less heat).
2️⃣ Place slices in a 16-oz mason jar.
3️⃣ Pour tequila over the jalapeño and seal tightly.
4️⃣ Let infuse for 1–2 days, tasting periodically.
5️⃣ Strain out jalapeños and store tequila in an airtight container.

🌡️ The longer it infuses, the spicier it becomes.
